Fortis - a brand with a long history

Maison Fortis is founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt in the Swiss town of Grenchen. The company grows rapidly and expands its factory premises as early as 1917. The Maison also made a name for itself in 1926 when, together with John Hartwood, the inventor of the first automatic movement, it launched the world’s first series production of automatic watches. The next sensation followed in 1940: Fortis presented the Fortissimo, one of the world’s first waterproof watches. Further milestones followed over the next few decades, such as the watches in the “Flieger” collection, first presented in 1987, and the first use of the Official Cosmonaut Chronograph in space. To this day, the company has lost none of its pioneering spirit and continues to rewrite the rules of what is possible.

The Fortis Marinemaster is born

As one of the first manufacturers of waterproof watches, Maison Fortis attracted attention early on. In 1954, the company finally launched a new collection and set new standards for robust and waterproof watches with the Marinemaster. A move that paid off, as the watch remains one of the manufacturer’s bestsellers to this day and has been reinvented time and again over the years. The timepieces are still produced in the Grenchen workshops today and are the ideal choice for divers and adventurers who demand the best.

What sets the Marinemaster apart

The iconic diver’s watch has been part of the Swiss manufacturer’s range since 1954 and was last reissued in 2021 to meet the demands of today’s world. For example, new watches are equipped with the Gear Pretzel, a particularly grippy bezel for tool watches. The Fortis Marinemaster M-40 is water-resistant to depths of 300 m thanks to the screw-down crown with specially developed FKM seals, while the M-44 with its bidirectional rotating bezel is even water-resistant to depths of 500 m. Fortis also makes no compromises when it comes to the movement and relies on movement 11 with a power reserve of 70 hours and a bidirectional rotor system, which is certified by the COSC test center. To guarantee optimum readability even in the dark and in poor visibility conditions, the indices and hands are also equipped with the high-performance SuperLumiNova® luminous material. The sapphire crystal, which has an anti-reflective coating on both sides, also ensures easy reading. The Maison uses recycled stainless steel to manufacture the timepieces, both for the case and the block bracelets. Also exciting: the anodized dial with fortis o structure.
