Hamilton: Swiss watches with an American spirit
Swiss watches meet American history – there is hardly a better way to describe Hamilton watches. Founded in 1892 in the US state of Pennsylvania, the Hamilton brand is now one of Switzerland’s most popular watch manufacturers and is characterized by its excellent price-performance ratio. One of the most popular collections is certainly the Hamilton Khaki Field, a robust outdoor men’s watch that accompanies you on every expedition in nature. And Hamilton is no stranger to the world of cinema either – Hamilton watches have already appeared in numerous films such as Men in Black. And even if you are looking for something more elegant, the Hamilton range has suitable automatic watches and chronographs, for example in the Ventura or Jazzmaster collections. Are you interested in a Hamilton men’s watch, such as a Khaki Field or a Hamilton Jazzmaster? Visit us at our branch in Oldenburg or in our online store – as a certified specialist retailer for Hamilton watches, we are your competent partner for Swiss timepieces with an American spirit.
Hamilton - as punctual as the railroad
The history of Hamilton dates back to the 19th century. The brand was founded in 1892 in the US state of Pennsylvania and initially produced high-quality and precise pocket watches. Values that the railroads of the United States also appreciated. In order to prevent accidents and record times consistently, many rely on Hamilton pocket watches. The manufacturer was soon awarded the title “The Watch of Railroad Accuracy”. The military also appreciated the high quality and precision of Hamilton watches. Thanks to its ability to act quickly and innovatively, Hamilton becomes the largest supplier to the US armed forces. In 1942, the manufacture even stopped producing watches for consumers in order to supply the military during the Second World War. Between 1942 and 1945, the manufacturer produced more than one million timepieces, including wristwatches and marine chronometers.
Hamilton watches take off to lofty heights
The history of Hamilton is not only closely linked to the expansion of the railroad and the military, but there are also numerous milestones in the history of aviation. For example, it was a Hamilton pilot’s watch that accompanied the first airmail between Washington D.C. and New York. In 1926, Admiral Richard E. Byrd became the first pilot to reach the North Pole – the time he needed for this pioneering flight was measured with a Hamilton watch. Even today, many pilots still rely on the precision of wristwatches and fly around the world with models such as the Hamilton Khaki Aviation or the X-Wind.
Hamilton and the movie
Hamilton also has a long tradition in the world of cinema – the brand has been working with producers and actors for more than 90 years and has already appeared in more than 500 films and TV shows. In 1932, for example, a Hamilton wristwatch appeared on the big screen for the first time in “Shanghai Express”, followed by the successful Hollywood film “Frogman” in 1951. In 1961, the Hamilton Ventura made a memorable appearance on the wrist of music legend Elvis Presley in the comedy “Blue Hawaii”. And in more recent history, Hamilton wristwatches have also been seen in blockbusters, for example in the 2014 sci-fi epic “Interstellar”. Since 1997, the producers of the Men in Black blockbusters have also relied on the iconic timepieces from the Ventura collection.
Locations of the Hamilton company
Even though Hamilton was founded in the United States, the manufacture has been producing all of its timepieces in Switzerland since 2003. The headquarters of the company, which is now part of the Swatch Group, is now located in the city of Biel. Hamilton also sources the movements for its men’s and women’s watches from Switzerland, specifically the calibers from ETA. This enables the manufacturer to guarantee high quality and a long service life, not only in terms of design, but also with regard to the movements used.
Popular collections from the house of Hamilton
Over the decades, Hamilton has launched a whole range of now iconic series, including the Khaki, which is now available in numerous different versions. Do you have any questions about the Khaki Aviation Pilot or would you like advice on the Hamilton Khaki Field? We will be happy to assist you with the purchase of a men’s or ladies’ watch and answer all your questions.
American Classic: a historical legacy
The watches in the American Classic series are dedicated to the historical heritage and connection to the history of the railroad. This series includes watches such as the Railroad Auto, a three-hand watch with a date function and slim, tapered indices. Inside the American ticks an H-10 caliber with an 80-hour power reserve. In addition to stainless steel models, gold-plated versions are also available. Would you like a chronograph? Then an Auto Chrono could be the right choice, such as a watch from the Intra-Matic series. With their vintage design, they are reminiscent of the 1960s and are available as automatic watches with a diameter of 38 or 42 mm. Take a look at the Intra-Matic Auto Chrono, a 40 mm chronograph with a panda or reverse panda dial. The men’s watch also has a small second at 9 o’clock and a date function at 6 o’clock.
Khaki Field: the watch for adventurers
The Khaki Field is a tribute to the military watches that Hamilton has been producing since the 1940s. The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is particularly authentic with a 38 mm case, which US soldiers wore in an almost identical design on missions all over the world. The matte stainless steel case and the dial with 12 and 24-hour graduations are characteristic of the Khaki Field Mechanical. In addition, the hour markers and hands glow in the dark to make them easy to read even at night. If you are looking for the Hamilton Khaki Field as an automatic watch, you may find it in the Khaki Field Murph Auto. The Khaki, which was also featured in the hit movie “Interstellar”, is characterized above all by its black dial, its cathedral display and luminescent hands and hour markers. Or you can opt for the Hamilton Khaki Field Auto Chrono, which has a day function as well as a day display. The Hamilton Khaki Field is not only available with a stainless steel case, but also with a titanium case.
Ventura: a true icon
The Hamilton Ventura is one of the classics in the Hamilton range. The Ventura is characterized in particular by its triangular case, which has often been seen on the big screen. This men’s watch was also the first battery-powered electric watch in the world. Today, the iconic watch is available with both automatic and quartz movements, as well as in the Lady version. Those who prefer it big should take a look at the XXL Auto in this series. The case of the watch measures 45.5 x 46 mm; inside ticks a caliber H-10 with a power reserve of 80 hours.
Jazzmaster: the modern timepiece
The Jazzmaster range is also diverse and has a suitable timepiece for every taste. For example, the Jazzmaster range includes elegant dress watches, GMT watches and skeleton watches. The elegant series also includes watches with a chronograph function, for example in the form of the Maestro, which is reminiscent of the IWC Portugieser thanks to its dial design.
Khaki Aviation: Pilot's watch with tradition
Hamilton covers the field of pilot’s watches with the Hamilton Khaki Aviation. Whether a simple three-hand watch or an automatic watch, whether with a drift angle calculator or day display – the models in the Khaki Aviation range have the right timepiece for everyone. Those looking for a vintage look should take a closer look at the Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer, a men’s watch that honors the pilot’s watches of the 1970s.
Khaki Navy: robust, even under water
Hamilton also has the right men’s watch for fans of water sports: the Khaki Navy. It is available with the hand-wound caliber ETA 6498-2, the automatic movement H-10 and the chronograph movement H-21 and in sizes between 37 and 46 mm. Depending on the model, the Khaki watches also have a diver’s bezel and are water-resistant to depths of 300 meters. For example, opt for a Khaki Navy Scuba Auto or a Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba Auto Syroco in the Limited Edition. The perfect watch for your underwater expedition!
