Junghans Mega Solar – precise and state-of-the-art

Founded in 1861, the Junghans brand can now look back on an eventful history in which numerous milestones can be found. The artist Max Bill, for example, brought the purist Bauhaus style to the company and founded an iconic collection that has endured to this day. And the first wristwatch with radio technology can also be traced back to the inventive spirit of Junghans engineers. In addition to models such as the Meister, the watches in the Junghans Mega Solar series are also very popular. This is a wristwatch that not only relies on precise radio technology, but also draws its energy from the sun. Watches such as the Junghans Mega Solar Ceramic, which was presented to the world in 1995, were the ultimate of their time and were described as timepieces that ran forever and never went wrong. It is not for nothing that the range of Junghans watches with the advanced technology has continued to grow over the years and today includes a variety of watches, including, for example, the Junghans Force Mega Solar. The history of the Junghans company

The history of the manufacturer Junghans dates back to the 19th century. In 1861, Erhard Junghans founded a watch components factory together with his brother-in-law and initially only manufactured individual components. In 1866, the first own watches followed and enjoyed great popularity. With more than 3,000 employees, the Baden-Württemberg company is the largest watch manufacturer in the world in 1903. Iconic models such as the first Meister watches and the first watches in the max bill series will follow in the coming years and reinforce the success of the German manufacturer.

Invention of the Mega Solar

The company was particularly fond of the further development of wireless technology in the 1980s. After long research, those responsible were able to present the first radio-controlled table clock for private use in 1985. In 1990, the technology was reduced to such an extent that the first radio-controlled watch for the wrist could be presented – also from Junghans. In 1993, the next sensation followed: Junghans presented the first radio-controlled watch with solar technology. In 1995, the manufacturer presented the Junghans Mega Solar Ceramic with a robust and scratch-resistant ceramic case. In 2004, the Maison also developed the patented multi-frequency wireless solar plant, which made it possible to receive time signals in different countries and automatically switch to the correct time.

Development of a new radio unit

2018 marks a special anniversary for the watch manufacturer: the Maison celebrates the 100th anniversary of the iconic terrace building, which brought daylight to all workplaces in 1918. At the same time, the company is launching a new intelligent radio unit, which is used in the max bill MEGA, among other things. The 200th birthday of the company’s founder Erhard will also be celebrated in 2023. Two anniversary models in gold are now available in limited quantities. The fein Chronoscope MEGA Solar is also launched, the first App Connected men’s watch with radio technology, solar drive and Chronoscope function.

Force Mega Solar

Wireless technology meets solar energy – in the Force Mega Solar model, both technologies combine to create a sporty, modern watch that is second to none. The built-in Connected caliber J615.84 draws its energy from a storage system that is continuously charged via solar modules in the dial. The movement is housed in a 40.4 mm ceramic case, which is lightweight and scratch-resistant. The caseback is also made of the modern material. The Force Mega Solar also has a robust sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 5 bar. For optimum readability even in poor visibility conditions, the hands of the Junghans Force Mega Solar are provided with an environmentally friendly luminous material. The Force is also characterized by its variety of functions, including the dark power reserve of up to 21 months, the sleep mode and the outsize date. A synthetic rubber strap, on the other hand, offers a high level of comfort.

Max bill MEGA Solar

The bill MEGA Solar also draws its power from the sun, but has always inspired with its iconic Bauhaus design. Simple hands and indices give the watch its very own look, the origins of which can be found in the 1950s. The Connected caliber J101.85 ticks inside the watch, and the case is made of titanium. In addition to the solar dial, the bill also impresses with its anti-reflective glass and functions, including a precise seconds display in half-second increments and a date at 3 o’clock.

Milano Mega Solar

The technology in the Milano series is particularly modern. Characteristic of the watches is above all their glass solar dial, which is processed in numerous steps in the grinding and printing shop. The clock in the timepiece is set by a caliber J615.84, and the case is made of stainless steel. This model is also characterized by its dark power reserve of up to 21 months, its sleep mode and numerous other functions. A special choice for the fashion-conscious gentleman.

Spektrum Mega Solar

If you prefer it sporty, you should have taken a closer look at this series. The 41.6 mm watch not only has a glass dial and a mineral crystal case back, but also scores points in terms of features. Sleep mode and a dark power reserve of up to 21 months make the watch a top companion for everyday life. And the stainless steel ceramic bracelet also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of design and wearing comfort. By the way: The timepiece is water resistant to depths of 100 meters.
