The Tutima brand: How it all began

Let’s turn back time for a moment and look back at the origins of Tutima watches. It all began in 1927, when the lawyer Dr. Ernst Kurtz, managing director of UROFA (Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik) and UFAG (Uhrenfabrik Glashütte), developed his first wristwatches. These were characterized in particular by their robustness and high resilience. A characteristic that gives the watches their name, as the term “Tutima” comes from Latin and means “safe”. Technical developments at the beginning of the 20th century in particular led to a high demand for Tutima products. Not least for car pilots, but above all for airplane pilots, it was essential to have a reliable timepiece on their wrist. The foundations were laid for the success story of the pilot’s chronographs that are still famous today. After the end of the Second World War, Dieter Delecate acquired the brand rights to the watch manufacturer. The company is still owned by his family today.

German craftsmanship in perfection

Then as now, Tutima attaches great importance to the highest quality. Not only are the best materials used in the production of the high-quality timepieces, but every movement is developed in-house and assembled by hand with precision. One example: the caliber 521, which powers many of the Saxon manufacturer’s watches. It is thanks to this precision that it can sometimes take several years before a truly perfect Tutima leaves the factory.

As a chronograph in the pilot’s watch product line, the Grand Flieger series is particularly noteworthy. The collection is divided into the Grand Flieger Classic and Grand Flieger Airport models. Functional, robust, powerful: Tutima’s sports watches include the M2 model series in particular, which can easily withstand even extreme conditions and is the successor to the popular Tutima Military series.
